Stunning capture. It is a perfect expression of the rule of thirds and leading lines as well. It shows the reason photographers get up before dawn to be in place for the magical moment when the sun rises above the horizon. Wonderful range of color and light. Was this a single exposure or bracketed?
It was a 1/2 mile hike up there, fairly dark and very cold! Thankfully my wellies were excellent as were my thermals. I took pretty much all my kit because I didn't know what I'd find up on the wall area. So my bag was burden too. I'm not particularly fit and I had to stop a few times before I got to where I wanted to be.
It was two exposures blended. The light on the wall didn't hit the scene until the sun had come up a bit further, but by then the sky was too harsh and lost it's magic. The exposures were three stops apart and blended using two layers and a soft brush in PS. Colours and contrast were captured in camera and just blended together.
It's a great photo and I need to get off my duff and start getting up before dawn to get some great photos (of course it has been raining here for a month, so I'm not sure getting up at dawn--around 7:00 AM is all that beneficial to exciting photos right now. Thanks for the technical details on the image.
